WOBURN, MA, October xx, 2004 -- Repromedix, the leading national laboratory specializing in advanced reproductive testing, has announced the appointment of David B. Brown, PhD as Research Investigator. Dr. Brown is a noted specialist in the field of male infertility research and is inventor of the Sperm DNA Decondensation (SDDä) Test, for which he holds three U.S. patents. SDD is the only in vitro test to evaluate sperm function after penetration into the egg, assessing whether fertilization will succeed. Repromedix, as exclusive global licensee, is the only laboratory to offer the SDD Test.
Dr. Brown has more than 25 years of research experience in the field of cell cycle biology and sperm biology. He joins Repromedix from The University of Texas Medical Branch, where he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Biological Chemistry and Genetics. Dr. Brown began his research on male infertility while a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University, and continued it throughout his 15 years at the University of Texas.
Repromedix Vice President of R&D, Benjamin (Yamini) Rivnay, PhD, said Dr. Brown’s appointment represents a serious commitment to andrology in general and the role of male factors in infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). “At Repromedix, Dr. Brown will expand on the important research he has done on male infertility,” said Rivnay. “We believe that male factors are largely underdiagnosed and not sufficiently understood with regard to infertility. Having the inventor of the SDD Test on our R&D team will allow us to stay in the forefront of research and technology development,” said Rivnay.
Craig Sockol, Repromedix founder and CEO, said the addition of Dr. Brown allowed the company to provide the best possible technology and service in the area of SDD. “As global licensee for the SDD test, we naturally have an interest in its continued commercial development,” said Sockol. “There is no better way to ensure a proprietary test’s success than by having the inventor continue his clinical studies.”
Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at Colorado State University. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Science at University of Texas Health Science Center, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Houston, TX.
